Sermon Title: I Thirst
Primary Text: John 19:28 All Scripture references are from the (KJV)
March 30, 2026 A Thirst That Reveals Love
Scripture: "After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst." John 19:28
Jesus had endured the mocking, the scourging, the nails — and yet He speaks not of His wounds until now. Why? Because His mission came first. Only after redemption was secured did He mention His thirst.
This cry reveals not weakness — but love fulfilled.
He who created the oceans now thirsts. The One who offered “living water” John 4:14 now suffers dryness of soul and body. Why? Because He placed you before Himself.
Today’s Reflection:
Christ’s life was not self-centered but God-centered and others-centered. The victorious Christian life begins when we follow that same surrender.
Do I put Christ first, even before my own comfort?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to see Your love in Your suffering, and teach me to live unselfishly for Your glory.
March 31, 2026 A Satisfied Savior
Scripture: "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished..." John 19:30
“I thirst” comes just before “It is finished.” This is no coincidence. Jesus was declaring that every prophecy fulfilled, every sin paid, every requirement satisfied.
He did not cry out in defeat — but in completion.
He is the propitiation for our sins 1 John 2:2. God’s wrath was fully satisfied. There is nothing left for man to add.
Today’s Reflection:
The Christian life is not striving to finish what Christ started — it is resting in what He has already finished.
Am I trying to earn what Christ has already completed?
Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, that salvation is finished. Teach me to rest in Your completed work.
April 1, 2026 The Sole Savior
Scripture: "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" 1 Timothy 2:5
When Jesus said, “I thirst,” He was fulfilling Scripture and declaring His identity as the promised Messiah.
There is no other way. No other sacrifice. No other mediator.
Jesus did not simply point to salvation — He is salvation.
As He hung on the cross, every fulfilled prophecy testified: This is the One.
Today’s Reflection:
Victory in the Christian life comes through dependence on Christ alone — not self, not religion, not effort.
Am I fully trusting Christ alone, or relying on something else?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I confess You as my only Savior. Keep me from trusting anything but You.
April 2, 2026, A Suffering Savior Who Understands
Scripture: "My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws..." Psalm 22:15
“I thirst” was not symbolic — it was intensely physical.
Jesus suffered real pain. Real thirst. Real agony.
He knows what it means to hurt.
When the enemy whispers, “No one understands,” the cross answers, “Jesus does.”
He endured not only physical suffering, but the weight of all sin. That “treasure of wrath” was poured out upon Him so it would never fall on us.
Today’s Reflection:
Christ not only saves us from sin — He sustains us in suffering.
Do I bring my suffering to Christ, or try to carry it alone?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for understanding my pain. Help me trust You in every trial.
April 3, 2026, Grace in the Thirst
Scripture: "Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor..." 2 Corinthians 8:9
This fifth saying from the cross corresponds beautifully with the number five — the number of grace.
“I thirst” is a cry of grace.
He thirsted so we could be filled.
He suffered so we could be saved.
He emptied Himself so we could receive eternal life.
What a Savior!
Now the call is clear: live yielded, live surrendered, live for Him.
Today’s Reflection:
The victorious life is not about trying harder — it is about yielding fully to Christ who lives within.
Am I living a life surrendered to the One who gave everything for me?
Prayer:
Lord, Your grace humbles me. Take my life and use it fully for Your glory.
Weekly Reminder: From the Cross came a simple cry — “I Thirst”
But within that cry is the depth of redemption, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the display of divine love.
May we never hear those words lightly again.
