Walking in the Spirit of God
Primary Text: Judges 7:9-15 (KJV)
Feb 23, 2026 Sent Alongside to Help
Scripture: Judges 7:10-11 (KJV); John 15:26 (KJV); John 14:16 (KJV)
“But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant…” Judges 7:10 (KJV)
Gideon was afraid. Though called a “mighty man of valour,” his heart trembled before the vast host of Midian. God, knowing his fear, sent Phurah alongside him. Phurah did not fight the battle for Gideon — he walked with him into the place of fear.
Phurah pictures the Holy Spirit — the Comforter — “One sent alongside to help.” Jesus said, “When the Comforter is come… he shall testify of me.” John 15:26 (KJV). The Spirit does not draw attention to Himself; He strengthens us to see Christ clearly.
Victory does not come by striving but by surrender. Gideon did not conquer Midian in his own strength; he walked in dependence. So must we.
Application:
Are you facing fear today? The Spirit of God has been sent alongside you. You do not walk alone.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, strengthen my hands for the battle. Teach me to depend fully upon Thee.
Feb 24, 2026 Indwelt but Not Always Filled
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV); Romans 8:9 (KJV); Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)
Every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. That is possession. But Scripture commands us to be filled with the Spirit — that is control.
Indwelling means He resides in you.
Filling means He presides over you.
Gideon had already been called and commissioned by God, yet fear still lingered. The difference came when he walked in surrender and obedience. The Spirit-filled life is not about getting more of God — it is about God getting more of us.
Ephesians 5:18 (KJV) commands, “be filled with the Spirit.” The verb implies continual yielding. Victory is not manufactured by human effort. It is produced by divine control.
Application:
Is there a room in your heart the Spirit does not have access to? Yield every area today.
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender every part of my life. Fill me, control me, use me for Thy glory.
Feb 25, 2026 From Worry About Ability to Confidence in God
Scripture: Judges 6:14-16 (KJV); Philippians 4:13 (KJV); Romans 4:17 (KJV)
“Go in this thy might…” Judges 6:14 (KJV)
Gideon questioned his ability. “My family is poor… I am the least.” Judges 6:15 (KJV). His focus was inward. When we walk in the flesh, we measure ourselves by our limitations.
But God calls those things which be not as though they were Romans 4:17 (KJV). The might God spoke of was not Gideon’s natural strength, but divine enablement.
Paul declared, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 (KJV). The Spirit-filled life shifts the focus from self to Savior.
we do not achieve victory — we receive it by faith. Gideon’s strength came when he trusted the promise of God.
Application:
Stop rehearsing your weakness. Start resting in His strength.
Prayer:
Father, I confess my insufficiency. Be my strength today. Help me trust Thee fully.
Feb 26, 2026 Trusting God’s Arrangement
Scripture: Judges 7:2-12 (KJV); Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV); Romans 8:28 (KJV)
“The people that are with thee are too many…” Judges 7:2 (KJV)
God reduced Gideon’s army from 32,000 to 300. From a human standpoint, this was backward strategy. Gideon had to wrestle not only with his fear of the enemy but confusion over God’s arrangement.
Have you ever wondered if God was leading you in the wrong direction? The Spirit-filled life trusts divine arrangement over human reasoning.
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV) reminds us, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” The Holy Spirit teaches us to rely upon God’s sovereign plan, even when numbers shrink and resources diminish.
God often reduces our strength so His glory may be revealed.
Application:
Are you resisting God’s arrangement in your life? Trust His wisdom today.
Prayer:
Lord, I do not always understand Thy plan, but I choose to trust Thee.
Feb 27, 2026 From Worry to Worship
Scripture: Judges 7:13-15 (KJV); Galatians 5:25 (KJV); Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)
“When Gideon heard… he worshipped.” Judges 7:15 (KJV)
When Gideon walked with Phurah to the enemy’s camp, nothing outwardly changed — but everything looked different. He heard the dream. He saw God already at work. And he worshipped.
This is the transforming mark of walking in the Spirit: Worry turns into Worship.
Galatians 5:25 (KJV) says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” When we grieve the Spirit Ephesians 4:30 (KJV), we live in anxiety. When we walk with Him, we see truth clearly.
Israel was called a “host” only after Gideon worshipped. Perspective changed identity. When we worship, we remember who we are in Christ.
Application Question:
What describes your life more — worry or worship?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me walk with Thee daily. Turn my fear into faith and my worry into worship.
Closing Reflection
Gideon’s victory did not begin on the battlefield. It began in surrender.
Phurah walked silently beside him — just as the Holy Spirit walks beside us.
If we are ever going to have victory, we must walk in the Spirit of God.
“The LORD hath delivered into your hand…” Judges 7:15 (KJV)
